Football

Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except the hands and arms, with the exception of the goalkeepers who can use their hands within the penalty area. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which cover aspects such as the dimensions of the field, equipment, and procedures for play. The game is divided into two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a halftime break in between. The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins, although matches can also end in a draw or go to extra time and penalties in knockout competitions.

Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, played professionally and recreationally across various continents. Its global governing body, FIFA, organizes major international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, which is held every four years and showcases national teams from around the world.
